Kailasam Keechaka – A Love Story

December 20, 2016

Kailasam Keechaka – A Love Story
Kannada Play by Sanchari Theatre, Bengaluru

PlayWright: G P Rajarathnam
Director: Ramnath Rangayana

Kailasam Keechaka is not a man of lust as depicted in Mahabharatha , but a man of love. He remains unmarried. Draupadi’s Swayamvara took place twenty five years prior to Virata Parva. Keechaka too had gone there to participate. He fell in love with Draupadi. As Draupadi was to marry, he who excelled in Dhanurvidye, Keechaka who was adept in Gadavidye had to return broken hearted.

The haunting memory of his broken love and the evasive death in the face of Mruthyubandha by Bheema fails him to recognize the Panadavas in Ajnatahavasa. This Keechaka is not a man of lust, he is a man of love.
