Favourites from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s and Polish Jazz by the HeFi Quartet

The Bangalore School of Music’s 15th East West Music & Dance Encounter 2017, shifts focus to jazz music of all kinds; from standards, to contemporary, both instrumental and vocal.


Performing for the first time ever in Bangalore will be the HeFi Jazz Quartet from Poland featuring Leszek Hefi Wiśniowski – flutes and saxophones, Dominik Wania – piano, Bartek Staromiejski – drums and Maciej Adamczak – double bass.


Also performing, will be the Bangalore School of Music’s 30 member-strong Senior Choral Ensemble, conducted by veteran Conductor, Mr Victor Thomas Abraham, singing in harmony, the best love songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s, as well as Sweden’s Moving Big Band, a 20 piece Big Jazz Band Orchestra from Sweden comprising of Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Flutes, Clarinet, Double Bass, Piano, Guitars and drums, playing standard songs, jazz and concert pieces arranged by them, both mellow and uptempo music; songs that we all grew up listening to and still nostalgically hum when feeling ‘blue’! The Moving Big Band is conducted by Mr Lennart Olsson, a veteran orchestra conductor and music professor.

About HeFi Quartet
HeFi Quartet consists of Leszek Hefi Wiśniowski – flutes and saxophones, Dominik Wania – piano, Bartek Staromiejski – drums and Maciej Adamczak – double bass. The group that plays modern jazz music which is the result of the original concept of the leader Leszek HeFi Wiśniowski as well as freedom and continuously changing alchemy between team members during the concert. Virtuosity of the musicians, dynamics and their fantasy create an explosive mixture, referring directly to the best patterns of jazz music.

In 2010, the band released a CD called Kinetics, since then HeFi Quartet performed at major jazz festivals around the world. They have also recorded material for Polish radio and television.

The musicians are all graduates from prestige Polish Music Academies in Katowice and Krakow. Additionally Dominik Wania graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, USA, studding jazz piano at Danilo Perez, while Bartek Staromiejski is a graduate of Staatliche Hochshule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgard. Apart from playing in Hefi Quartet the musicians play active role on Polish and European musical scene and Dominik Wania’s recording entiteled Ravel was awarded with the most prestigious music prize in Poland “Fryderyk 2014”.

These jazz musicians are also highly sought-after academicians apart from being stellar concert performers. Their Bangalore repertoire will consist of the music that they have recorded for their CDs as well as pieces inspired by traditional Polish folk music. Incidentally, the members of the group have also cooperated with musicians from Bangalore; master of the Ghatam, Giridhar Udupa (featured on CD ‘Lechoechoplexita’) and well-known percussionist, Pramath Kiran (on CD entitled Kinetics)
