Demonetisation is not an unknown phenomenon in our country. Yet the most recent one, announced dramatically by the Prime Minister on 8th November, 2016 shook up the country in a way which is almost unprecedented Why was it so? What were the objectives behind this measure and to what extent have they been achieved? What has been its impact on the economy?
An eminent group discusses such and other related issues in this event.

Dr. Rammanohar Reddy
Based in Hyderabad, Dr C. Rammanohar Reddy is currently Readers’ Editor of the digital publication He was Editor of Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Mumbai between 2004 and 2016.

Dr Reddy has been writing on economic policy since the late1980s. Before joining EPW, he was Assistant Editor at Deccan Herald, Bengaluru (1988-93) and Associate Editor at The Hindu, Chennai:Hyderabad (1993-2004)

Dr Reddy holds a post-graduate diploma in Management from ILVI Calcutta and a PhD in Economics from the Centre for Development Studies Thiruvananthapuram:jawaharlal Nehru University.

He had earlier (with MV Ramana) co-edited a book Prisoners of the Nuclear Dream (2003 Orient Longman)

Dr. Narendar Pani
Prof. Narendar Pani heads the NIAS-UNDP Policy Research Initiative on Inequality and Human Development at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru. An economist by training and a social scientist by practice, he has worked in both academic and media institutions, including Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and The Economic Times. He has, over the last four decades written extensively on a variety of subjects. His books include ‘Inclusive Economics: Gandhian Method and Contemporary Policy’. He has published academic and media articles in India and abroad as well as a monograph on theatre and two novels. He has also lectured in a number of universities, including Harvard and Brown.

Mr. Tejasvi Surya
An alumnus of India Facts, Tejasvi Surya is an Advocate practicing at the High Court of Karnataka, at Bangalore. He is also the co-founder of Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence, an organization running projects in the spheres of education, employment and entrepreneurship. Mr Surya is currently the State Secretary for Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Karnataka.

Mr. Narayan Ramachandran
Mr Ramachandran is the Chairman of RBL Bank, India’s fastest growing Bank. The father of two girls, husband of a writer, social entrepreneur, columnist and emerging market investor, he has worked on Wall Street (mostly at Morgan Stanley) for over 20 years, most recently as head of global emerging market investing and then country head of Morgan Stanley in India_

Mr Ram achandran is cofounder and fellow at the Talcshashila Institution He writes a bi-weekly column called A Visible Hand for the Mint Newspaper.
