Antigone – Kannada Play

June 5, 2017

Theatre Samurai, Bengaluru presents “Antigone” Kannada Play
Playwright: Jean Anouilh
Director: Iqbal Ahmed

In essence, Anouilh’s Antigone is not very different from Sophocles. Here she seems more aware and enlightened. Sophocles’ Antigone does not have much choice in life apart from death. But in Anouilh’s play, you are introduced to a more lively and aspirationalheroine in whom you see a shadow of Oedipus’ pride and arrogance which may seem to overpower both Creon and Antigone.

This play is a mirror to the political realities of our time.
