About the Book
The Boot( of Indian Dogs deals with different indigenous breeds of dogs in a historical perspective. It covers 25 breeds, divided into three groupings • working dogs, companion dogs and hounds. The book talks about some lesser known breeds also such as Alaknoori. The book is the fruit of several years of travel and research into India’s dog breeds, as wen as the author’s hands on experience of raising various breeds of dogs. This is a celebration of India’s canine heritage.

Mr. S Theodore Baskaran
S Theodore Baskaran served two terms as a trustee of WWF India and was an Honorary Wildlife warden Chennai for a term. Author of The Dance of the Sams, (Oxford University Press), he also edited The Sprint of the Bladcbudc (Penguin.), a book of wildlife writings. He is a frequent contributor to The Hindu and Frontline on conservation. A graduate of the National Defense College, Mr Baskaran retired as Chief Postmaster General of Tamil Nadu and lives in Bangalore.

Dr. Ramachandra Guha
Ramachandra Guha is a historian and biographer. He has taught at the universities of Yale and Stanford, held the AS Naess Chair at the University of Oslo, and been the ludo-American Community Visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. His books include a pioneering environmental history, The Unquiet Woods. and an award-winning social history of cricket, A Corner of a Foreign Field. His India after Gandhi was chosen as a book of the year by The Economist and the Wall Street Journal among others. He is the author of Gandhi Before India and the Editor of Makers of Modern Maio. Dr Cuba’s books and essays have been translated into more than twenty languages. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shushan, the Republic of India’s third highest civilian honour.
