NO PARKING- Reflections on the Metropolis – Artshow

Exhibition of Paintings, Photographs & Installations by
Sharmila Aravind, PeeVee & Hamsavardhan.

THE CITY is a melting pot and a potpourri of Class, Culture and Identities! The seemingly random juxtaposition of varied functional and visual elements poses a challenge and defies a singular definition. As artists and dwellers of The City, we have attempted to distill, in our own individual sensibilities, some of the essential personality traits of the Urban Character.

NO PARKING is an artistic interpretation of what The City encompasses in its myriad hues, smells and sights, urban chaos, congestion, struggle for space, losses and gains, development, under construction mode and all such elements which constitute the city. An exploratory experiment through the mediums of paintings, photographs and installations.

Sharmila Aravind is a visual artist and documentary flm maker, who has in her portfolio, My City Speaks to Me, FLUID -thoughts on water, and a solo – Pre-sumed Innocence. Her conceptual paintings in acrylics and drawings in pen often refect the times prevalent today.

Her documentary Active Voices- A collection of Recollections, managed to attract fair amount of appreciation. Sharmila has also written and sung two volumes of rhymes for children – Genuine Gems 1&2, produced by the Indian Montessori Centre. Her installation THE CELL, along with artist Vincent Philip was a part of an artshow on cancer awareness.

PeeVee is a people photographer and creative entrepreneur based in Bangalore, India. Early this year, he won the Sahapedia Frames Grant, as one of the 25 photographers from across India, and documenting the Inscription Stones of Bengaluru. In September 2012, Timeout Bengaluru (a global lifestyle magazine) named PeeVee as “One of the 13 local heroes for culture in Bangalore”, for his contribution to photography.

Currently, he is with Nikon School India as a photography mentor for Karnataka region and has mentored more than 3500 budding photographers in the last 4 years.

Hamsavardhan wears many hats – a studio potter, an architect, a product designer, singer, teacher and more! For this show, he will be working on installations on the theme of the city and its persona.
