“Bloody Phanek” Documentary film Screening.

August 28, 2018

Bangalore International Centre (TERI Initiative) is organizing Screening of a documentary film “Bloody Phanek”

Phanek is an exclusive wear of Manipuri women. Woven on a waist loom and worn like a sarong this cloth carries a deep symbolism revolving around both sexes. For instance, when people leave home, they carry a piece of their mothers’ phanek, as a token of protection and well-being.

The phanek however is not simply a garment, but has been a powerful symbol of both female subjugation and women’s protests and struggle for freedom .

In this film, the director is on a quest to investigate the myths, symbolism and beliefs surrounding this beautiful garment.

Duration of the film: 45 Minutes.
