Atta Galatta presents The Salon: Keeping Kannada Culture Alive

The Salon brings together communities of artists, illustrators, writers, and thinkers to engage in conversation and discourse around important subjects of our time while exploring how art, innovation, and culture can affect and drive change.

The sixth installation of The Salon, produced by arts, culture and social enterprise news site Kerosene Digital, is themed around keeping Kannada culture alive, in which we will discuss different ways through which artists and small businesses/initiatives are preserving and promoting local culture.

Vinay kumar Sajjanar

Featuring:
Vinay kumar Sajjanar founded Kahale, a online platform that brings together writers, readers and publishers who share a love for Kannada literature, in 2017. The platform publishes videos of poetry readings and has held several poetry sessions and workshops.

Akash Dwarkanath (Yaaru)

 

Akshay Achar (Kali)

Akash Dwarkanath (Yaaru) and Akshay Achar (Kali) are young rappers from Bengaluru who express their thoughts about life and society through Kannada lyrics. Kali has written a track in Kannada called “Nadeyuve” which is a Kanye West remix in 2014. Yaaru has been rapping in Kannada for 2 years, and released a track called ‘ShuruMaadu’.

Anup Maiya

Anup Maiya is the founder of Kannada Gottilla, an initiative that helps people learn Kannada over WhatsApp. Their other creative teaching methods include teaching Kannada through music, comedy, and cartoons. He is also the Founder of the only Kannada standup comedy group – Lolbagh.
