Manjira Foundation, an NGO for the promotion of Indian Art and Culture brings an enchanting evening of melody by all women musicians, featuring well known artists from all over the country.

About the Artists:

viraj-amarVidushi Viraj Amar, Ahmedabad – Hindustani Vocal Recital Khayal:
Viraj’s talents bloomed under the guidance of her first Gurus, Smt. Manju Mehta
for Sitar & Pandit Vilas Rao Khandekar & Smt. Rupande Shah for classical vocal
music. At present, she is one of the foremost disciples of the illustrious Pt. Rajan – Sajan Mishra, of the Benaras Gharana. As Gujarat’s most promising Hindustani Vocal artist, Viraj is committed to the cause of upholding and promoting India’s rich musical heritage. She represents a generation of bright, new, talented young artists. Specialised in Khayal Gayaki, Viraj is equally at ease singing Bhajans, Thumris and Tappas. Her melodious voice and powerful stage presence have thrilled audiences all over the world. She is an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio, Doordarshan and an empanelled artiste of the ICCR. She has several solo albums to her credit. She has been awarded Pandit Omkarnath Thakur Trophy. She is the only artiste to have been awarded the trophy thrice in the State level competitions for classical and instrumental music. Presently, as the Founder Director & Chief Coordinator of Upasana School Of Performing Arts ( Department of Performing Arts – Gujarat University), she is rendering great service in the field of music.

dhanashri-ghaisasVidushi Dhanashri Ghaisas, Mumbai – Hindustani Light Classical Vocal, Thumri, Dadra etc.
Hailing from a music loving family, Dhanashri’s formal learning process started under the able guidance of Smt. Kumudini Katadare. Her talent was then identified and nurtured by Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, her Guru and mentor for the past 11 years. Dhanashri continues to imbibe the stylised aspects of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana in both Classical and Semi classical vocal music traditions. She is the recipient of the ‘President’s Gold Medal’ by the All India Radio for Semi classical and Light music. She stood First in Hindustani Classical vocal music in the All India competition by Acharya Viswanath Dev Sarma Foundation, USA and is a Graded artist of All India Radio. She has performed at various classical and semi classical music concerts in India and abroad. In addition to her musical talent, Dhanashri has also obtained a professional degree in Architecture from the University of Pune.

sulakshana-phatakVidushi Sulakshana Phatak, Pune on Tabla
Sulakshana got inspiration for learning tabla from her mother Smt. Vasudha V. Khadilkar. She had her initial training from Shri Balasaheb Gokhale; thereafter has had the good fortune of receiving talim from eminent tabla exponents like Pandit Pandharinath Nageshkar, Mumbai and Pandit Ashok Godbole. She is a postgraduate ( M.Com) and has passed Tabla Visharad from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay. She has received many prizes in tabla solo competitions and Pandit Bhai Gaitonde, Pandit Bapu Patwardhan have given her a special prize for accomplished performance. She is married to Shri Prashant V Phatak an accomplished Tabla player. She has worked as a table accompanist in SNDT College, Pune for 3 years and is currently under the tutelage of her father-in-law, Pandit Vinayak Phatak, Pune. Sulakshana has given performances both as a solo artiste and also as an accompanist and has performed for Doordarshan Sahyadri. She is the main tabla player in women orchestra for the last ten years.

deepti-kulkarniVidushi Deepti Kulkarni, Pune on Harmonium
As a child, Deepti was always enchanted by the keys of the harmonium. Her talent was steered into learning this art, at a very early age. She is the disciple of Pandit Pramod Marathe and Late Pandit Appasaheb Jalgaonkar. She is a Sangeet Visharad from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyala and M.A. ( Harmonium with distinction from SNDT College, Pune. For light music, she was aptly guided by violin maestro Shri Ramakant Paranjape. These forms have seeped into Deepti’s repertoire and as an accompanist, she showcases an amazing blend of styles. She also engages in teaching Harmonium and has also some CD projects and television shows to her credit.
